Privacy Policy

Dwell ("we," "our," or "us") is a time-tracking mobile application developed by Yiqi Xiang. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Dwell app on iOS or Android.

By using Dwell, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide you with a functional and useful time-tracking experience.

a) Time-Tracking Data

• Start and end times of tracked time blocks
• Labels and categories you assign to time blocks
• Duration calculations derived from the above

This data is created by you and stored locally on your device using SQLite. It is only transmitted to our servers if you choose to enable cloud sync (see Section 3).

b) Cloud Sync Data

If you enable cloud sync, your time-tracking data (time blocks, labels, and categories) is transmitted to our cloud database for backup purposes. No account creation or login is required. No personal identifiers (email, name, etc.) are collected.

c) Information We Do Not Collect

Dwell does not collect or access:

• Location data
• Contacts
• Photos or media
• Microphone or camera input
• Device identifiers for advertising purposes
• Usage analytics or tracking pixels

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

• Provide core time-tracking functionality (start/stop timers, label blocks, view history and analytics)
• Enable cloud backup and sync across your devices (if you opt in)
• Allow you to export your data as CSV

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

3. Data Storage and Cloud Sync

Local storage (default): All time-tracking data is stored locally on your device in a SQLite database. The app works fully offline and does not require an internet connection.

Cloud sync (optional): If you enable cloud sync, your time-tracking data is transmitted to and stored in a Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database. No account creation is required. Data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Data at rest is stored securely on Supabase's infrastructure.

You may disable cloud sync at any time and continue using the app with local-only storage.

4. Third-Party Services

Dwell relies on the following third-party services:

• Supabase — Provides cloud database hosting for optional data sync. Supabase processes your time-tracking data only on our behalf and in accordance with their privacy policy.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics trackers, or other third-party data processors.

5. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: You can view all your time-tracking data directly within the app at any time.
• Export: You can export your complete time-tracking history as a CSV file using the built-in export feature.
• Deletion: You can delete individual time blocks within the app. To delete all cloud-synced data, contact us at yiqisaraxiang@gmail.com. Local data can be removed by uninstalling the app or clearing app data through your device settings.
• Portability: The CSV export feature allows you to take your data with you at any time.

6. Data Retention

Local data: Retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Cloud data: Retained in Supabase until you request deletion. If you request data deletion, we will remove all associated data within 30 days of your request.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:

• Local data is stored in your device's sandboxed app storage, inaccessible to other apps
• Cloud data is transmitted using TLS encryption
• Cloud sync uses encrypted connections and secure API keys
• Cloud database access is secured with row-level security policies

While no system is perfectly secure, we strive to use commercially reasonable safeguards to protect your data.

8. Children's Privacy

Dwell is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at yiqisaraxiang@gmail.com.

9. International Users

If you use Dwell from outside the United States, please be aware that your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service provider (Supabase) operates. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page and notify you through the app or via email if the changes are significant. Your continued use of Dwell after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
